ABOLITIONIST MOVEMENT
Frederick Douglass was not alone in leading the Abolitionist movement. There were many abolitionists who worked along side Douglass, including William Lloyd Garrison, who shared the same views as Douglass. In fact, Douglass looked up to Garrison a great deal, but then when Douglass decided to make his own newspaper which would challenge the success of "The Liberator", Garrison was appalled which created a great divide between Garrison and Douglass.
Also, Frederick Douglass was inspired by Nat Turner and tried to escape slavery, but failed the first time. He tried again as he posed as a sailor and succeeded. He even was part of the Underground Railroad, putting him in contact with Harriet Tubman. Douglass gave his testimony at the National Anti-Slavery Society, which was how he initially met William L. Garrison.
