ABOUT FREDERICK DOUGLASS
The world will be lucky to see another man like Frederick Douglass. Douglass was born in the year 1818, the exact month and date is not known. He was born a slave to Harriet Bailey, his mother. His father is unknown for sure, but is believed to be a white man Aaron Anthony. Douglass' mother named him Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey. Soon after he was born, he was taken away from his mother. He grew up in the bonds of slavery and was with his grandparents during his early years. His happiness was short-lived as he was left in a house full of children who were his supposed family. Then he shifted from house to house throughout his teenage and childhood years. His master's wife, Miss Sophia taught him how to read and write for a short while but then she stopped, because her husband Thomas Auld, disapproved of it. Douglass was on fire to escape slavery because of this exposure to the world around him. He learned that he could escape this scary life he was living. As a grown man he continued to work towards escaping. One of his plans to escape failed, but he used someone else's free papers, and escaped successfully. As a freeman, he joined hands with abolitionists such as William Lloyd Garrison to fight against the forces of slavery actively. He became good friends with President Abraham Lincoln, and worked to win equality for African-Americans vigorously throughout his life.
